Lets talk about the Merch roll out

There have been some salty comments about merch. This is not the place for that, here's why:

1. This is a No Troll group, that is my commitment to you. It is not a place for venting. It is not a place to complain about situations that are completely out of our control. This is a group to get behind the PWHL. This means that we agree to give the benefit of the doubt because we support the league. Before commenting, ask yourself: is this kind? Is this productive? Am I helping?

2. The logo was only released on Oct 24. That's an incredibly short turn around time for a major commercial order with multiple designs, sales points and customers all over North America.

3. Holding stock costs the league big time. All those ugly generic t shirts sitting unsold will be delaying the entire process because there is capital tied up in that merch, capital that they would be hoping to use for the next order.

4. The tag on my arena-bought jersey clearly said 'arena order'. The stock sold online has nothing to do with the stock available at the arena. It's 2 completely separate entities. Yes, they will try to do their best to make people happy, but doing so will delay things further down the line.

5. No one is obligated to purchase merch. If you can afford it, great. If you can't, don't order.

6. No one was obligated to put $ down to be a founding fan. There was NO timeline given for this fund raising campaign. Patience.

7. Ordering on the first day of a brand new label does not mean that you will get your stuff quickly. It MAY mean that you get your order before others who order after you, but that's it. I did not order anything from the online release because to me it seemed unlikely to be delivered on time for the first game. Since having a jersey at the first game was my priority I showed up an hour and a half early and stood in line and then bought an XL because that's all they had left. Even though it looks ridiculous on me. I don't care. I love it.

8. Maybe they underestimated the popularity, maybe they didn't. The jerseys are clearly a big seller but the t-shirts are not. Hindsight is 20-20. Last year I went to 2 PWL games and the merch on offer was completely different at each game. They can't know what will sell until it goes to market. Jerseys are expensive to manufacture.

9. Scarcity is not always a bad thing. Overloading the market with cheap stuff undermines value. Rewarding the die hards with the first round of merch creates loyalty. The only reason it's annoying anyone is because you're dying to get your hands on it! That means someone in marketing it's doing their job. One day you'll be able to say: I got an original jersey. You won't care if it came 4 weeks or 8 weeks after you ordered. Anyone who does care can simply cancel their order and get a refund.

10. I don't have a 10, it just seems weird to end at 9.

Thank you, Heidi
